The Definitely the Very Last Update
Thanks so much for all those who volunteered and helped with the planting today. Digging in English Clay with a wee trowel is not the easiest, especially for the kids who were quite brilliant. The gardeners will finish the last few plants on Monday, water and mulch the beds. I think they will look quite superb when we have a bit of growth.
The Very Last Update
Its Friday afternoon, the plants are being set out as I write this and there are quite a few. If we can get as many volunteers as possible that would be just great. Looking at them I think Ill bring a spade as well as a trowel as some are quite large. Even if you only have an hour it would be a great help and hopefully some fun and we can all take pride in what we've done. We don't have to water after we have planted as the automatic irrigation system will kick in.
I plan to start at 9.30 and start at the old lavender bed at the rear of Roebuck.
Final Update
I have spoken with James Powell this afternoon. The plants are being delivered on Friday 12 July. They will lay the plants out where they are to be planted. If we could get as many folks out on Saturday to help plant that would be great. Apologies for all the delays but I’m sure the square and the beds will look so much better and it will save money. Thanks all.
June Update
Despite chasing, we have had no update from our gardeners on plans for planting this weekend, which is to say the very least disappointing. I will update as soon as we have had the courtesy of a reply.
Further update
The gardeners need more time to clear spaces for planting. They plan to leave the plants where they need to be planted so it looks like we will be planting on 15 June and they tell us there will be plenty of them.
Update
James Powell will be planting on 6 and 7th June. The current plan is that any remaining plants will be planted by our kind volunteers, if needed, on Saturday 8th June. I am waiting to hear from James how this will be supervised, if its required. It is possible that James makes quick work of it and all is completed on the Friday.
We are unfortunately on holiday that week so Paula will post an update on WhatsApp as to the final plans,
Original
We have received an outline plan for the planting of over 200 new perennials, grasses and shrubs in the gardens. Once we have agreed the overall plan, we will share more details with what is being planted where in due course. This is probably just a couple of weeks away.
The plan has costs which we would like to reduce so we can spend more on the plants and less on labour. One idea is that we have a planting weekend when our gardener will layout plants throughout the beds and volunteers and the Board plant them under their supervision.
Its both a volunteer event to maximise the number of plants we can afford and a social event to meet the Board, neighbours and friends. All would be welcome for however long they could manage, even an hour or two. We could even have some drinks at the end of the day.
Could we get some reaction and see if we could get enough volunteers?
I'm sure if you arrange a date, request for volunteers and get together afterwards, you'll have a better response.
I'm happy to volunteer. What's more, I will bring my own trowel (and husband).
