Update
After further discussion, we have concluded that the EV Chargers model would not be feasible at this time. This may change in the future as more residents acquire electric cars and so it is an issue we will re visit on a periodic basis.
Mainstay has been approached by EV Chargers, a company which installs electric vehicle charging pods on a membership model, to determine if their model would be of interest in Emerald Square. EV Chargers would install the charging pod for free and they recoup their investment through membership, £8-£11 per month, and a price of electricity per kw/hr of between 23-25p during the day with a nighttime tariff of 19-21p.
We are very much in investigation mode as we have yet to receive a specific proposal or review alternatives. Once we have something concrete to communicate we will update you accordingly.

We now have 2 electric cars. We've been fully electric since January 2019. We use Octopus Energy which have an EV night-time rate of 5p/kwh. This is without any subscription charge so much cheaper than the suggestion below. We also installed Podpoint with the government grant of £500. We paid £800 or thereabouts. The extra £300 was for extra cabling to reach our junction box.
Hi Neighbours
Having recently purchased a PHEV, I have been looking into various charging options.
There are few things to consider when signing up to a membership style charging point.
Pod Point are currently offering home chargers from around £600. No membership required, no additional fees incurred – the charger is yours, and you get to take benefit of your own electricity tariff – which as it happens, is considerable cheaper than what EV Chargers seem to offer.
£600 initial outlay is worth 54months of subscription, however charging rates that are on average 50% more expensive than your standard tariff (say 17p /kWh as opposed to 25p / kWh), would reduce the time the initial investment pays for itself.
So…
